Find out about which image formats are currently supported by FastPictureViewer Professional.
FastPictureViewer's supports a number of file formats, depending on its edition. The freeware Home Basic edition supports the ubiquitous JPEG image format along with the new Microsoft HD Photo / JPEG-XR all-encompassing high dynamic range image format, which features lossy and lossless compression from 1 bit/pixel to 144 bits/pixel. The Professional edition adds support for common Windows and Web image formats (PNG, GIF, BMP, ICO), TIFF, DNG and select camera RAW previewing. The current formats compatibility is detailed in the table below and is likely to be extended over time.

AT&T's DjVu     Full multi-page support, bookmarks in FPV Pro.  The program can be locked in 100% zoom mode by pressing the [Enter] key for easier 1:1 viewing.   Requires DjVU codec available from Caminova.

We are constantly looking to expand the file format support.

Support for more image format through 3rd party WIC codecs for the Professional edition is currently being investigated from both a technical and licensing/redistribution standpoint. Formats under consideration includes DICOM, J2K, Targa and Photoshop's PSD.

FastPictureViewer relies on the JPEG preview image embedded within CR2 and NEF files to provide near instant previewing of raw files. The embedded JPEG usually reflects the in-camera settings such as contrast, white balance and sharpness but, depending on camera, the color space information might be missing and color rendition will fall back to default.
